Dewhurst
School is a striking seventeenth century building, now superseded
by modern buildings, and has its date (1640) and the founder's
initals above the front door. The founder's arms are on the east
side of the building, and on this side the first three gables
indicate the extent of the original building.
Nearby
are the former buildings of the St. Mary's and infants' school,
founded in 1873, and enlarged in 1913 in memory of Frank Gissing
Debenham of Cheshunt Park. The two schools merged in 1958.
